This book addresses the full richness of African American family reunions and the scope of legacies that may arise from those gatherings. However, some of the historical background may direct the reader to other sources to gain a complete understanding of the past. To that end, it is important to recognize that family reunions can be more than just spirited bi-annual or annual social occasions. Sure, that is one component of them. The social aspect of these gatherings serves the important function of reunification. As such, we should not underestimate or trivialize the connections, spiritual uplifts, and jubilant moments that occur during each of these valuable exchanges
